It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of 2010 Chapter President. John Harris on May 15, 2020.
John graduated from Pomona College in 1993 with a B.A. in English. He worked at RE/MAX Honolulu as their business manager and computer consultant before joining the REALTOR® profession and becoming its Broker/Owner.
John dedicated a great deal of his time to the future of the industry and profession. He had an extensive list of volunteer history with the local, state, and national level of associations and Institutes. Notable appointments or titles include Hawai‘i CRB Chapter President (2010), CRB National Board (2012-2013), RPAC Major Investor (2017-2020), NAR RPAC Major Investor Council (2018-2020), and President of Hawai‘i REALTORS® (2019). At the time of his passing, he was carrying out the duties of Immediate Past President with Hawai‘i REALTORS®.
Last year, the Board of Directors approved the renaming of the Annual Pinnacle Award to the Stewart L. Wade Pinnacle Award honoring the man who started our Chapter in Hawaii. John was the first recipient of the re-named award and was proud to receive it as it was presented by Stewart Wade’s beloved wife, Cecilia Christenson Wade. He said, “Receiving this award re-named after Stewart and having it handed over to me by Ceci, makes this award even more special.”
John also had a generous heart being our perpetual Long Drive sponsor for our Annual Golf Benefit for the Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation for many years. He was also a long time contributor of the Children’s Miracle Network.
He is remembered fondly for his quick wit, affable personality, and talent for singing. He was also a strong leader with a creative spirit that pushed others to improve and innovate. His years of service wove his spirit into the foundation of our association and he will be with us in this way as we work toward creating the vision that he helped build.
We ask that our REALTOR® community please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
